Meet Coach Cathy Grimes-Miller

Head Coach, Clinton Grace Christian School Varsity Girls’ Basketball

Ms. Cathy L. Grimes-Miller graduated from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, VA (renamed Alexandria City High School), where she was one of the most highly recruited women’s basketball players in the country. She attended the University of Virginia (UVA) on a full basketball scholarship and received numerous athletic and academic awards, including All-American, Academic All-American, All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), All-State, ACC Honor Roll, Finalist for National Player-of-the-Year, NCAA Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year, and ACC Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year. Upon graduating from UVA, Ms. Grimes-Miller was the all-time leading scorer, rebounder, and field goal percentage shooter in UVA women’s basketball history and was honored as the first women’s basketball player to have her jersey number (25) retired. After college, Ms. Grimes-Miller chose not to play professional basketball overseas and, instead, enrolled in law school at UVA. Since graduating from law school, Ms. Grimes-Miller has received the prestigious NAACP Achievement Award and Greater Washington Area Boys and Girls Clubs’ Archie Avedisian Award, has been recognized as an “ACC Legend,” and has been inducted into the City of Alexandria African American Hall of Fame, Alexandria City High School Athletic Hall of Fame, and ACC Hall of Fame.

Ms. Grimes-Miller has more than 15 years of basketball coaching experience, including three years as the head basketball coach of the middle school boys’ basketball team at Clinton Grace (formerly Grace Brethren Christian School) when she led the team to a 56-3 overall record, three consecutive undefeated seasons in the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference (PVAC), and three consecutive PVAC tournament championships. Since her initial tenure at Clinton Grace, Ms. Grimes-Miller has coached Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) boys’ basketball for P.V. Hustle Elite, a non-profit AAU organization that she created, and high school girls’ basketball at her alma mater, Alexandria City High School, and St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School (SSSAS) in Alexandria.

Ms. Grimes-Miller currently works as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Education and is married with three grown children, all of whom attended Clinton Grace Christian School. Ms. Grimes-Miller is thrilled to be back at Clinton Grace and looks forward to making Clinton Grace girls’ basketball one of the top programs in the Washington, D.C. area.
